We're borrowing a Country Cruise/Wednesday Wheelie ride for this delicious excursion out of Courtice, which is admittedly a little further from the big city than our normal Friday rides. But believe us. It's worth the drive. Our mid-ride stop is at the scenic Orono Park - you can either grab a sandwich from the bakery in Orono or bring your lunch and eat it in the park.

This ride takes an ambitious north-north-westerly route from Vaughan Subway station to Tottenham, the most southern community in Simcoe County. Lunch is at the Tim Horton's on Queen Street North. There is also an A&W in the same plaza. Note that there is just over 10 km of trail riding on the greenery of the Caledon-Railway Trail, our conduit for safe passage into, and then back out of, Tottenham. The trail is made up of hard-packed gravel or dirt, and makes for easy riding for road bikes. (Many a TBN Tourist level ride has taken in the Caledon Railway Trail)
Meet on the east side of the oval, south station exit, depicted below. There is parking available in a parking lot immediately to the east of the oval subway station, at a cost of $7 for the day on Sundays.

Start point note: Due to the closure of the parking lot at Victoria Park subway for condo construction the start point has been moved to the parking lot of the Shoppers World plaza at the SW corner of Victoria Park and Danforth. The RwGPS map still shows the old start point.
For this newer version of a favourite TBN ride we will be starting from Shoppers World, eliminating the big hill from the Beaches up to Kingston Road. We will be using a bit of the SMR route to Guildwood but continuing further up the Gatineau (Meadoway) Trail and then using a brand new connection to the upper part of East Highland Creek. A section of the trail about 100 metres in length is loose gravel so you will have to walk your bikes through that bit.
Lunch is at Tim Hortons near the two thirds point so you might want to bring something to snack on to keep your energy up. You may still wish to bring your own lunch and snacks to avoid lineups and contact.
Meet for a 10 am departure from the parking lot of the Victoria Park TTC station, located on the east side of Victoria Park Avenue, one block north of Danforth Avenue.
If the ride is cancelled due to weather or other reasons, notice of the cancellation will be posted on the website around 8 am Sunday. Please check before leaving for the ride.

This is a ride to watch the salmon run on the Ganaraska River.
People go to Port Hope every weekend from mid-August to early October to watch the 5,000 to 10,000 chinook and silvery coho salmon swim from Lake Ontario up the Ganaraska River that runs through Port Hope on their way to their home spawning grounds. The two cycling routes (below) are based on the Newcastle Navigator Country Cruise which leave from Newcastle and head north-east to Port Hope for lunch. Each route has four optional stops to watch the Salmon Run (see cue sheets for details) before getting to Port Hope. After lunch, all routes are the same returning to Newcastle along the Lake Ontario shoreline. Lunch for all routes will be at Memorial Park Bandshell on Augusta St in Port Hope. Bring your own lunch or grab food at any of the locations on Walton, John or Queen streets.

Please join us on Saturday, September 13, at 2:00 PM for an in-person City Walk planning meeting at The Pilot, 22 Cumberland St (near Yonge and Bloor). The Pilot is an historic pub with a partially covered rooftop patio, which provides shade from the sun and protection from the rain. We will meet on the 3rd floor rooftop patio. There may be live music on another floor, but if you tell them you are going to the rooftop patio, there is no charge.
Please register so that we can reserve the appropriate number of seats (although, feel free to join us, even if you have not registered).
This fall, we intend to run a full schedule of City Walks, starting around the beginning of November and continuing to mid-December. As usual, we will have a walk every Sunday, starting at 10:00 AM. We may also offer some walks on weekdays this fall, if there is enough interest.
We will also offer our less formal program of Winter City Walks, from the beginning of January until it is nice enough to cycle in the spring, where the start points, end points, and routes will typically not be announced until a few days before the walk. This allows us to select a route appropriate for the expected weather conditions, reflect current events, or other items of interest.
If you would like to have some input, or have some suggestions, or are curious about the program, or would just like to get together with some friends, please join us.
If you are unable to make it, but would like to have some input, we will also be having an on-line Zoom meeting, Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 PM. I will send out the Zoom link before the meeting. Alternatively, you can email me any of your ideas at citywalks@tbn.ca
For more information on the City Walk program and some possible discussion topics, have a look at:
https://www.tbn.ca/programs/fallwinter/citywalks
If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer to lead a walk, email me at citywalks@tbn.ca.
