The restaurant is at 351 Danforth Avenue, which is very close to Chester Subway Station. You can view the menu here.

Noonan's Irish Pub at 141 Danforth is very conveniently located just a very short walk away from Broadview Subway Station or Sher-E-Punjab. The band starts at 9:30. January Dining Out: Georgian
On Thursday, January 22, we will be returning to one of our favourite restaurants. All in attendance last year loved Restaurant Suliko, which is a fantastic Georgian restaurant.
Suliko (Georgian: სულიკო), is a Georgian name meaning "soul". Suliko Restaurant embraces all the charm of fine Georgian and European dining and the joys of a truly unique culinary experience.
According to a respected food critic, who is also the social director of a large Toronto cycling club, Suliko is one of the best restaurants in the GTA. You can view the menu and info about the restaurant here:
Our reservation is for 6:30, so please try to arrive on time.
This event is limited to 16 members and their guests. Please register before Tuesday, January 20 at midnight. Note that if you register and then not attend, and you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the event, you will be moved to the wait list for the next dinner you register for.
Suliko is located at 1311 Alness Street, Unit 8, which is between Dufferin and Keele and just a few steps north of Steeles. There is free parking there, and the Steeles bus stops at the corner of Steeles and Alness. View the map here.
Questions or suggestions for other restaurants, please contact Ken Lackman, Social Director at social@tbn.ca.

Glen Major Forest/Brock Tract Loop
The Glen Major Forest is more than 3700 acres of land located on the Oak Ridges Moraine in the headwaters of the Duffins Creek Watershed. This area consists of mixed coniferous/ deciduous forests and a gravel pit once operated in the Glen Major site and is currently being restored. The remainder of the property complex was previously used for agriculture and contains a variety of habitat including forest, meadows and wetlands. Old farm roads and farm building foundations are still visible. This hike has lots of elevation changes and I think that most hikers will find the forest quite beautiful but strenuous. It is a hike worth doing.
Distance: 13 km
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38184572
Pace: Moderate (~3.5 km/hr)
Terrain: Moderate - rocky with hills and/or poor footing.
Directions: https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Brock+Tract/@44.0027418,-79.128982,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x89d525dd7de51f9d:0xa55b051d89412d81!8m2!3d43.9998587!4d-79.1280305
This is a smaller free parking lot that may be difficult to see from Brock Road. It looks like a farmers lane so be on the lookout for it. We are using this because the lot we usually use now has pay parking.
Parking is at a premium so please do not be late and find yourself scrambling for a parking spot.
Please Register - Only REGISTRANTS are permitted to participate in this event.

January Pub Quiz
You are invited to attend the monthly trivia night at The Prenup Pub on Tuesday, January 27. Please register before Monday, January 26 at 10 pm.
The Prenup Pub is one of the best pubs in the city. It’s a Belgian style pub with a wonderful atmosphere, great food, and extraordinary draft beer, all at reasonable prices. In fact, the atmosphere is actually free! The draft beer list consists of 70 quality brews, of which most are European. There is also a sizeable wine list. The food menu is also extensive and also mostly European, with French, Belgian, Italian and German specialties. There are also quite a few vegetarian and vegan dishes.
The schedule for the evening is as follows:
This will be an unusual pub quiz in that the participants will choose the categories before the quiz begins. Virtually any category is possible, including history, geography, 80s music, Soviet fashion, marine biology, supramolecular chemistry, and even cycling. The teams or four or five will brainstorm possible categories, and we all vote to determine the five most popular topics. Then, since each team will be responsible for one round of questions, they will work together to compose 8-10 questions in their assigned category. Phones are permitted only during this phase and during the break.
The Prenup Pub is conveniently located at 191 College Street, just a five-minute walk west of Queen’s Park subway station. There also is street parking available, especially on McCaul Street. We will be on ground floor of the pub, on your right as you walk in (next to the bar) or on the patio. View the map here.

This weekend is a chance to get the cycling season off to a great start by joining one of TBN’s most popular rides along the quiet roads and off-road paved trails of the Niagara Region. This year we have 40 spots - note that this trip sold out quickly in previous years.
Accommodations
We’ll once again stay at the comfortable Niagara College residence near Niagara-on-the-Lake. You’ll have your own bedroom in a shared suite, complete with a shared full bathroom and shared kitchenette, including a refrigerator. Note a change in room furnishings from previous years. In each suite, one bedroom has a double bed, desk with chair and satellite TV. The second bedroom has two single loft over desk/bunk style beds.
There is a Tim Hortons and McDonald's in the large outlet mall, just a three-minute drive or ride away. For people looking to keep costs down, consider bringing your own supplies for breakfasts.
Note that given the shared bathroom and common area, attendees will be invited to select the other TBN member with whom they would like to share the suite.
RIdes
The rides are TBN "no-drop" ride level. All riders are expected to be able to maintain a comfortable pace of 18 kms per hour or higher. You are expected to be able to fix a flat, and ride with a spare inner tube, patches, tire levers and a pump.
Friday May 15 Warmup Ride
For those who can get away early, as in past years on Friday afternoon at 2 pm we will once again start with an optional warmup ride along the bike path from Niagara on the Lake to Niagara Falls and back, covering about 50 kms.
Friday’s ride will be followed by a group supper on the patio at Play Bar & Grille at the White Oaks Resort, which is located nearby. Alternatively you are welcome to organize informal group dinners at restaurants in the area.
Saturday May 16
Saturday’s rides feature long and short distances and run along the little-known paved off-road trail beside the Welland Canal, with a stop for lunch along the way.
After their ride, participants are invited to meet for an informal get together at the Niagara College Teaching Winery, Brewery, and Distillery, located next the location where we are staying. Each participant will receive a $25 gift card for buying beverages and there will also be snacks courtesy of TBN. Alternatively, participants can visit Niagara on the Lake or do a winetasting at one of the nearby wineries.
This will be followed by pizza, salad and dessert in the patio area outside the Niagara College dining room. Pizza and soft drinks will be supplied. In addition, we’ll be asking people to bring a salad or dessert. Please bring your own main course if you don’t like pizza, as well as anything stronger than pop to drink.
Something else to bear in mind is that in past years some members followed this by a drive to Niagara Falls to watch the fireworks over the gorge.
Sunday May 17
Sunday’s rides (again, long and short) begin from a remote start 15 minutes away in Niagara Falls along the paved trail beside the Niagara River Parkway – with a stop for lunch enroute.
For anyone interested, after we get back, we’ll be convening at the Niagara College Teaching Winery, Brewery, and Distillery
Sunday evening will feature group suppers at local restaurants, with a variety of cuisines and price points to choose from. Last year these dinners were very popular.
Monday May 18
Monday is your chance to join a final short early morning ride, do some hiking along the Bruce Trail, visit the Outlet Mall nearby or tour some wineries. To beat long weekend traffic, most riders head home by noon.
For anyone wanting to come out a day early or to extend your stay, contact Niagara College directly to make a reservation, mentioning that you are part of the TBN group staying from Friday to Sunday nights.
Overall logistics:
This ride is limited to members of TBN.
To specify the person who will be sharing your room, enter it when you register, and/or once you’ve both registered send an email to the trip leader.
If you need a ride, or can offer a ride, please enter this when you register. An attempt will be made to match anyone who needs a ride with those able to offer a ride. The suggested compensation for members providing a ride is $25 in each direction.
Your fee of $295 per person gives you
access to trip planning, maps, and ridewithgps routes
pizza and pop for the Saturday evening potluck
a $25 gift card for Niagara College Winery, Brewery, and Distillery, with snacks on Saturday afternoon.
three nights’ accommodation on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (includes your own bedroom, towels, sheets, blankets). All meals except for the Saturday potluck are extra.
Should you need to cancel, provided that your room can be filled from members on the waiting list you will receive a refund less a $50 cancellation fee.
Any questions contact the trip leader Carl Friesen <cfriesen@rogers.com>.

We need people in all time slots as follows:
MEETING TIME: Indiviidual start times are 6:00am, 6:30am, 7:00am, 7:30am, 8:00am, 8:30am. The last ride will be at 9:00am, people that come later can be designated as a Marshall or Ambassador for the family event. The illustration below indicates ride distances of 75km, 50km, 25km and the 10k route opens at 9:30 am and closes at 10:30 am. SCHEDULED LEADERS: Arrive one hour before start time and please be prepared to ride.
MARSHALLS & AMBASSADORS:
Contact Terry Walsh for questions:
Building layout:
MEETING LOCATION: , near the ride start. Ambassadors are to collect their T-shirts and Marshalls collect Armbands. Please return Armbands to the organizer as soon as the ride is completed. If the organizer is not present, please leave the Armbands on the table and this is important since Brain Health will need the Armbands for next year, 2026.
FREE VOLUNTEER BUFFET LUNCH PROVIDED BY BAYCREST . This area will be clearly marked at the volunteer check-in location.
Ride Ambassadors: Ambassadors are the eyes and ears of the routes. Ambassadors will be provided the following: T-shirts, a Central Control number to call for cyclists in need. Also, important issues about the routes that event organizers from Baycrest should have.
Ride Marshalls are a “mobile safe riding team effort” for Baycrest and wearing TBN jerseys, plus supplied armbands. Marshalls work in teams of two and basically look for cyclists who are riding unsafely. When Marshalls see this happening they should ride up alongside the cyclist and politely ask them to stop riding in an unsafe manner (most do not realize they are doing it) and ask the person to stop any unsafe activity which could be riding too fast, swerving ahead or behind other riders or texting.
Once a marshall has made the first warning it is best to fall back a bit and observe that the individual is cooperating and if not, the individual must be told that if this type of behaviour continues the next call will be to Toronto Police Services who will then pull the person off the course or wait at the finish line. This rarely is required but it can be a very effective tool.
If the warnings are not observed, marshalls are asked to call Central Control and provide a clear detailed description of the individual as best they can. Central Control will take it from there.

Rules of the Road
For Your Safety we have developed the following safety rules and recommendations. Please read them carefully before event day. City of Toronto Police and Toronto Bicycling Network Ride Marshalls will monitor the roads to ensure they are obeyed.
1) Wearing a bike helmet while riding your bike can reduce the risk of head injury by 85%. Helmets are mandatory for all participants.
2) Be aware of other cyclists, road obstacles and lane markings. Slower cyclists and children must stay to the right of the road. Do not attempt to pass the pace vehicles at any time during the event.
3) Communicate your intentions to other cyclists by telling people you are planning to pass using phrases like “on your left”, “on your right” or “coming through the middle”
4) Cyclists who are deemed by event organizers and Toronto Police to be riding in an unsafe manner will be intercepted and removed from the ride route immediately. This includes weaving in and out of other cyclists, passing other cyclists at high speeds and riding in the midst of other cyclists in a group at high speeds. Please use common sense and ride your bike responsibly and safely.
5) Watch carefully for your 75km route direction signs on the Bayview ramp, and on the Gardiner Expressway on the return ride, to ensure that you ride the full 75km route.
6) Use extreme caution on the downhill portions of the DVP & Gardiner Expressway. Stopping anywhere other than Rest Stations is allowed for EMERGENCY SITUATIONS only. If you have to stop for safety reasons, if possible, let the people around you know you are planning to stop and go to the far right of the road.
7) Be courteous to your fellow participants and remember, by participating in the event and raising funds you are assisting in the defeat of dementia. The Baycrest Foundation thanks you!
8) At all times OBEY the official Toronto Bicycling Network Ride Marshalls and Ambassadors of the Road. They are there for YOUR safety and to ensure the safety of fellow participants.
Thank-you and have a safe and fun ride!

A two-day 80k/day ride at an Urban Roller pace of about 20-22 kph on a flat route. Road bikes (or similar) are recommended. Mountain bikes are not recommended.
Accommodation
The official start will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 26 from Burlington GO Station parking lot, where you can park your car for free over the weekend. We will cycle at an Urban Roller pace of 20-22 kph mostly on the Waterfront Trail all the way to Port Dalhousie and then down the Welland Canal trail to Niagara College Residence (137 Taylor Rd, Niagara-on-the-Lake). Accommodation at the college will be in two-room suites with shared washroom and kitchen area.
There is an optional start 7:00 am from Mimico GO parking lot (free parking over the weekend) and meet the main group at Burlington GO at 10:00 am. Note that the ride from Mimico to Burlington will be at Tourist pace of 20-26 kph.
Some things to bring in a small backpack or pannier:
For almost all of the winery stops on Sunday, our bikes will be close to us and within view but not always. That’s why a small medium security lock is advised. Two people can lock their bikes together with one lock. If necessary, the non-drinkers at those stops can take shifts watching the bikes.
We aim to maintain brisk Urban Roller pace at a speed of around 20 - 22 kph. At that speed, it should take around 6.5 hours to get to Niagara College residence around 4:30 pm. Check-in starts at 3 pm. We have 7 pm reservations for the patio at the Play Bar and Grill in the White Oaks Resort (across the road from the Residence).
On Sunday, we can have breakfast at MacDonald’s, Starbucks or at a few other fast food type places within a 5-minute ride or 10-minute walk. We need to be riding about 10:00am. We will stop at two-three wineries. After about 7 hours we should arrive at 5:35pm at the NISI Greek Taverna in Burlington for dinner, and later a short ride to the Burlington GO.
Below is the itinerary for Saturday and Sunday.
