At about 10:00 AM, rather than meet at Eglinton Subway Station, lets meet at North Toronto Memorial Community Centre, which has a washroom. North Toronto Memorial Community Centre, 200 Eglinton Ave West, is about 500m west of Yonge and Eglinton, on the north side of Eglinton. The closest subway station is Eginton, on Line 1 (Yonge Line). Note that we will meet at the Community Centre, not the Arena (which is a bit farther north). We will meet near the front doors, about 50m north of Eglinton and Lascelles Blvd. The walk will begin at 10:10 sharp.
We will walk on quiet residential streets, with a few shorts stretches on gravel, in a loop to Lawrence and Bathurst area, going about 10 Km and returning to the start. We look at some evidence of some of Toronto's lost rivers along the way. At around the mid-point (5 Km) we will stop for a washroom break and a take-out coffee.
Near the end of the walk there will be places to stop for lunch or coffee, including the Blooming Orchid restaurant, the food court at Yonge-Eglinton Centre, and many others.
The Santa Claus Parade is today, so we are avoiding downtown and the Yonge-Bloor intersection. No scheduled subway outages have been posted yet, but please check https://www.ttc.ca/service-advisories/Service-Changes in case there are any changes.
Points of interest and early exits along the way include:
- 0.0 Km – Eglinton Station (note, this is not the meeting point for the walk, instead meet at North Toronto Community Centre, about 500 m west)
- 0.5 Km – North Toronto Community Centre (start of walk, washroom)
- 4.4 Km – Barbara Frum Community Centre (washroom)
- 4.6 Km – Lawrence Plaza (coffee stop)
- 5.0 Km – early exit (1 Km walk to Lawrence West Station, or TTC buses to Lawrence Station or Lawrence West Station)
- 9.3 Km – North Toronto Community Centre (washroom)
- 9.8 Km – Eglinton Station (end of walk)
