FALL/WINTER HIKING WITH TBN
TBN has two hiking programs this fall/winter that will be mostly separate groups but could overlap. They operate similarly to our TBN rides where each hike will have an event page where the hike will be described and require registration. The "regular" hiking program is usually approximately 10-14 km at a fairly brisk pace. This will begin at the end of October and run until Dec 13th weather permitting. The No-Drop hiking program tends to start later in the season and tends to be closer to the city, with shorter more relaxed hiking pace. |
TBN Fall Hiking Program For the 2026 season, the hiking coordinator is Gloria Markiewicz. She is looking for hike leaders to lead hikes on some weeks. TBN has a library of hiking routes just like ride routes, so a new hike leader would not have to create new routes, just follow them (if they wish) Please contact info@tbn.ca if you'd like to lead a hike (or two) |

A few tips: Please bring your hiking boots/shoes, a water bottle, lunch. a backpack and icers for later in the season. A hat is a good idea, as is rain gear. Layered clothing works best. Wear a couple of pairs of socks - a polypropylene pair (sock-liners) for wicking moisture away and a wool pair for warmth. It's a good idea to bring a second pair of shoes for the drive home (it will help keep the car clean). Need a ride? You can post a ridesharing request to the hike leader or on the TBN facebook group. Or look into the City Walks program as the City Walks meeting points are accessible by public transport. |

TBN Winter No Drop Hiking No Drop Winter hiking is intended to be an excuse to get out and get a little exercise with TBN friends during the winter months. Since it's colder, the hikes are fairly short (5-8km) and usually close to the GTA. There's usually a short break partway through where we can sip some tea and have a snack. We recommend using icers and hiking poles as most of the trails are not maintained and can be somewhat icy. While the pace will be leisurely, there may be some hills to navigate. If weather permits, we may even try to do some snowshoeing on a public golf course such as Don Valley or Tam O'Shanter. Hikes will typically be on Saturdays or Sundays starting around 10:00 or 11:00 am depending on hike leader availability, and we've been known to apres to a nearby pub for a late lunch. If you have any ideas for hiking routes, or you would like to lead a hike, please contact no-drop-hikes@tbn.ca. |
