Sunday Urban Roller - Milliken Club Picnic

Please note: You must register to participate on the ride. Registration is free for TBN members. Non-members can now purchase a 30 day trial membership for $10 here and then can register for the ride. If you cannot attend, please cancel your reservation by Saturday. Attendance will be checked at the start. If you register after 8 am on the day of the ride bring a copy of the confirmation email, either printed or electronic, to show to the ride leader.

We are still under Covid-19 guidelines, so remember to bring and wear your mask in appropriate situations and maintain social distancing. Also, a helmet.

This is an Urban Roller level ride. If you are uncertain whether this level is appropriate to your riding level, click here. For a more nuanced description check this page.

Heat Note:  As of Saturday afternoon, the Environment Canada forecast for Sunday is sunny with an expected high of 33C/92F. Humidex is expected to be 40C/104F. Although we won't have a repeat of last year's deluge this is significantly hot and caution is suggested. Make sure that you have a full water bottle (preferably two). Older riders, members who may not have ridden much this year, or those with health issues may wish to reconsider and might want to drive to the picnic instead. If that is the case please remember to cancel your reservation for the ride so that others on the waiting list can have a chance. Your sandwich will still be waiting for you at the park either way, assuming that you reserved one.

Alternate Return note: Due to the heat the return route is being simplified to eliminate the section through Duncan Creek. We will stay on McNicoll and Cummer until we turn off to avoid the unpleasant Cummer Ave hill, which is narrow, steep, and has significant traffic. We'll take a quieter residential street that breaks the hill into smaller pieces. It's still a hill though. Here's the link to the RwGPS map, which has only the return from the picnic. You'll still need the original map to get to the picnic.  Alternate Return map

It's time again for the TBN annual club picnic, in it's regular time slot, the weekend after Cyclon. It will be held at last year's location, Milliken Park in northeast Scarborough. We will still be starting the Urban Roller ride from Finch. The food this year is expected to be sandwiches and salads. Let's hope that we have better weather than last year's drenchfest.

Do NOT register for a ride without registering for Food Planning and choosing a sandwich. If you haven't done so already, CLICK HERE to choose your sandwich.

Meet for a 10 am departure from the commuter parking lot of the Finch TTC station, located on Hendon Avenue, on the west side of Yonge Street, one block north of Finch Avenue West.

Due to the amount of advance preparations (food, etc) the ride will go ahead, rain or shine. Let's hope for shine. Fingers crossed.

The updated Ride with GPS map (now with cues galore) for the route is linked below.
