              WINTER HIKING

Icers and proper footwear are strongly recommended.  If these trails are icy they can be difficult/impossible to hike.

The Forks of the Credit is a part of the Bruce Trail and also the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere.  The hike starts at the junction of Mississauga Road and the Elora Cataract Rail Trail.  There had been a mill in the Cataract area since 1820 and in 1885 John Deagle bought the mill and converted it into a hydro generating station which was later purchased by Ontario Hydro and eventually shut down in 1947.   The area was also the source of Credit Valley sandstone which was used in the construction of various large buildings like Queen's Park and the Old City Hall.  This area is predominantly used by hikers and mountain bikers and there are lots of elevation changes and intersecting trails.  It can be a challenging area in the winter so icers are required and hiking poles are recommended

Distance:  12 km

Route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38153913

Pace:       Moderate (~3.5 km/hr)

Terrain:     Moderate - rocky with hills and/or poor footing.   Depending on the weather poles or icers will be needed.  PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT WINTER HIKING IS DIFFERENT THAN FALL HIKING.  ICERS AND PROPER FOOTWEAR ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
