Due to the extensive subway outage on Sunday, we will be rescheduling the Willowdale Historic Walk, originally planned for this day, and instead will be doing a walk around High Park, which should be easier for people to get to. This will be the same walk as we did last Thursday, except we will do (approximately) in reverse, and there may be some changes to the points of interest along the way.

Meet at about 10:00 AM at the Chess House in High Park. It is located about 20 m south of Bloor St, and about 100 m west of High Park Ave. We will begin the walk at 10:10 sharp.

(Please note that the times change this weekend, and if you do not change your clock, you will be at the start one hour early.)

We will first walk in a loop of approximately 5 Km and return to the start, then walk a second loop of approximately 3 Km and return to the start, covering a total of about 8 Km. The route will be through High Park and neighbourhoods outside of the park. Most of the route will be paved, but some will be unpaved paths in the park. Please wear light hiking shoes or boots appropriate for these conditions and the weather.

There is free parking at the Keele subway station on Sundays.  Entrance is on Indian Road, just north of Bloor St W, east of Keele St. There are also several pay parking lots within about 1 Km from the start of the walk, and there may be street parking available on nearby side streets, but the best choice may be to use the subway.

The closest public transit is High Park Station. There is a scheduled subway outage on Line 1 between Sheppard-Yonge and St Clair stations on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6, 2022 to accommodate work on the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit project and for TTC track workbut please check https://www.ttc.ca/service-advisories/Service-Changes in case there are any changes. Shuttle busses will be operating, so if you are coming south on the Yonge Line, you may want to additional time for your trip (the TTC Trip Planner indicates this may be 20 to 25 minutes) or plan an alternate route.

Points of interest and early exits along the way include:

  • 0.0 Km – Chess House (start of walk and washroom)
  • 4.2 Km - Cosette Coffee (takeout coffee location)
  • 4.9 Km – Chess House (early exit and washroom)
  • 6.0 Km - High Park Blvd (washroom)
  • 7.8 Km – Chess House (end of walk and washroom)

The route is available on Ride with GPS at: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41380841/

We are accepting Guest registrations.
