Toronto Island Trek – Sunday Jan. 28th
An opportunity to explore the communities & a few of the important sites & areas of Toronto Island - without the crowds ! (See ** Inclement Weather Notice below).

MEET TIME: 10am at the Toronto Ferry Terminal for a 10:30am departure to Ward’s Island.
WHAT TO BRING: Snack and HOT beverage for lunch - suggest soup in a thermos. (Also great on those cold bike rides!) Keep in mind that all food outlets will be closed. We’ll be outside for the entire walk, so dress warmly. Washroom located at the Centre Island picnic pavilion – stop here for lunch. Washrooms also located at Ward’s Beach & the Fire Hall.
ROUTE: We’ll first explore the charming Ward’s Island community, before heading down the Island boardwalk to the Avenue of the Islands, next to the Centre Island Pier. Then north along the Avenue, past the Centre Fountain and over the bridge. Washroom break at the Centre Island pavilion close by. On the bridge you’ll get a scenic view of the Long Pond & Grandstand, where the Toronto International Dragon Boat Festival takes place every year in June. We’ll do a circular tour of Olympic Island (site of numerous music festivals), then head through the Amusement Park to the Centre Is pavilion for lunch & a washroom break. The popular William Meany Maze is close by, if you want to get lost ! After lunch, we’ll head down to Lakeshore Ave, west to Service Rd & work our way around the Island School & back to the Fountain. We head east along the path past the Boat House & the Island Church to Cibola Ave - continue past the Fire Station to the bridge heading over to Algonquin Island – quick tour of the community here, over the bridge to Cibola Ave & finishing up back at the Ward’s Island Ferry Terminal.

** Inclement Weather Notice: If, at the time we start the walk, the weather forecast indicates that a walk on the islands would not be comfortable, we will take an alternate route, instead. We will go northward into the city, staying close to subway stations so that people may easily leave when they want to. Meet at the same time and location (Toronto Ferry Terminal, meet at 10:00 am for 10:30am departure). The the walk will be about 7 Km and the RwGPS route will be https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45442116.
Please note there is a scheduled subway outage for this weekend, on Line 1 (Yonge Line) from Lawrence Station to Davisville Station, in case this affects your travel plans. but please check https://www.ttc.ca/service-advisories/subway-service#e=0 in for any changes.
