August Dining Out: Latino Japanese
On Thursday, August 21, we will be dining at a very unique restaurant in the west end. Mai Bistro offers a fascinating selection of Japanese dishes with South American influences. Most of the dishes are in the form of small or large tapas, so they are ideal for sharing. There are also a number of vegetarian options available. Prices are very reasonable considering the reputation of the head chef (see below).
Chef's profile from Mai Bistro's website:
Classically trained Japanese chef Manh Nguyen has worked with some of the best Japanese chefs in the city. He was the Sous Chef for the Intercontinental Hotel in Caracas, Venezuela. During his time living in South America and using this experience, he developed a new style of Asian and Latino cooking. Upon returning to Toronto, he began working at the Supermarket restaurant with a new menu focusing on family style dining and a tapas style sharing menu that has gained great reviews from customers. In 2005 he was named one of the “Top 10 New Chefs” in the city.
