Ride the DVP while helping to ensure the safety of the other riders: BE A MARSHAL or ROUTE AMBASSADOR (scroll down for role definition)

Event Organizer:  Alice Chan (publicity@tbn.ca)

Event Assistant: Dawn Domm

MEETING TIME: Staggering Start Time 8am 9am 10am 11am.  New this year.  Check email for your time slot and ride partner.

STAGGERING LEADERS:  arrive one hour before start time

MARSHALS & AMBASSADORS:  arrive at TBN Meeting Location at Enercare (see picture below) 1 HR before start time (must be ready to ride)

Important Locations:

MEETING LOCATION: west side of the Galleria space outdoors, right near the ride start. It has a covered awning. Ambassadors and marshals will pick up their T-shirts and armbands there.

FREE VOLUNTEER BUFFET LUNCH will be provided by Baycrest: all TBN volunteers are invited to the lunch buffet in the volunteer
rest area, Salon 105, which is accessed from the main doors on the south side of the Enercare Centre (the Galleria space). This area will be clearly marked as the volunteer check-in location.

In addition, TBN is hosting a BEER & WING VOLUNTEERS APPRECIATION NIGHT for you.  To register, click  Register for Beer and Wings Night BFBH.  The cost is covered by Baycrest.

Ride Ambassadors: our eyes and ears on the route.  Ambassadors will be provided T-shirts.

Ambassadors will be given a Central Control number to call in to with any information relating to cyclists in need, potential issues on the route of any kind and generally any information that they feel would be valuable for the event organizers to have.

Ride Marshals:  are our “mobile safe riding team” for Baycrest, wearing TBN
jerseys, plus supplied armbands.

Ride Marshals work in teams of two and basically look for cyclists who are riding unsafely; when they see this happening they ride up alongside the offending cyclist and politely let them know they are riding in an unsafe manner (most don't even realize they are doing it) and to please slow down/stop swerving in and out of traffic/stop texting on your phone and generally cease any other observed unsafe activity.

Once a marshal has made the first warning it is best to fall back a bit and observe that the individual is following the warning; if not the marshal can then ride up to them again and say that if they continue the next call will be to Toronto Police Services who will then pull them off the course or
at a minimum be waiting for them at the finish line. This rarely is required
but it can be a very effective tool.

In the unlikely event that both of those warnings don't work, marshals are asked
to call Central Control and provide a clear, detailed description of the
individual as best they can. Central Control will take it from there.
