DESCRIPTION

Two route lengths (88 km and 97 km) are available.  Both rides stop at Four Corners Bakery in Caledon East for an optional lunch.

On the way to Caledon East, the long and short rides diverge at just past the 2 km mark. The short ride is out-and-back on almost exactly the same roads.  The longer ride goes a bit further north and enters Caledon East from the NE.  On the return to Vaughan, the two rides are almost exactly the same, except after Bolton the long ride does an extra hill or two that is avoided by those doing the short ride.  Remember to bring cue sheets for all routes you think you might ride.  Likewise, for GPS units, download all routes you think you might ride.

Meet at the Vaughan subway station, east side of the oval, south station exit, depicted below. There is parking available in a parking lot immediately to the east of the oval subway station, at a cost of $7 for the day on Sundays.

We are accepting "guest rider" registrations for this event. Guest registrations are $10 payable via PayPal.

If you have not registered for the ride, you may NOT  join the ride.

Ride leader: Sam Bootsma

Distance:  88 km or 97 km

On my ride today I realized that one of the roads on the long route is gravel! If I have time, I'll create a new route that avoids the gravel section (2 km). But I will describe the correction here.

The current route takes you north on Weston Road, then west on 15th Sideroad, north again on 8th Concession, then left onto 17th Sideroad, which is gravel for 2 km. This section also includes a couple nice hills (meaning steep) so if that appeals to you, then consider riding the gravel. Most of it is hardpack where you can avoid almost all the gravel, but there is a few hundred metres of rough road and more gravel.

The detour:

Ride north on 8th Concession, then west (left turn) on 16th SR, jog right/left on hwy 27 to continue no 16th SR, turn right on 10th Concession, then left onto 17th SR. At this point you will be back on the route.

If I have time I will create a route that avoids the gravel. Otherwise, you'll have to remember this during the ride on Sunday. Sorry about the error.

New Route Available:  If you downloaded the long route earlier in the week, then it is the gravel route. If you don't want to ride gravel (2 km), then I suggest removing it from your GPS device and loading the Caledon East - Four Corners Bakery (paved) route.  There are now three routes in the link immediately below.

1. Caledon East - Four Corners Bakery (gravel)

2. Caledon East - Four Corners Bakery (paved)

3. Caledon East - Four Corners Bakery (short: out-and-back).

Online maps and cue sheets here.  (please read route correction in paragraphs above).

PLEASE PRINT THE CUE SHEETS & MAPS, OR DOWNLOAD THE GPS FILES BEFORE ATTENDING THE RIDE. (The ride leader does not provide maps or cue sheets).

Helmets are required.

Ride may be cancelled up to 2 hours before the start of the ride if significant rain is forecast with moderate or higher likelihood for any time during the ride. Ride could be cancelled if weather is not suitable due to rain, snow, too cold, or salt on roads and/or trails.
