Sunday Tourist: Newtonbrook to Nobleton: The Vimy Ridge Edition

  • 09 Apr 2017
  • 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Finch TTC Station, West Parking Lot

Today's ride is called the Vimy Ridge Edition because 100 years ago today, the battle that defined Canada was fought in France during World War I. Vimy Ridge was a Canadian victory, and one of the few highpoints during the larger Battle of Arras. To many historians, it was the day that Canada became a nation.

Starting from our Newtonbrook base, the Finch TTC Station, we ride up
the rolling hills up to Nobleton to grab food and coffee at the Cappuccino Bakery on King Road in Nobleton. The 61 km route eats at  Coffee Culture in Maple.

If you love hilly rides, the 108 km route has both Strawberry Hill on Weston Road, and the climb up Jane Street from Davis Road West. Other routes are less hilly.

The middle-distance route has two options when on Weston Road: Turn right onto a quiet but bumpy dirt road (15th Sideroad); or, continue south and make a right onto King Rd (some people find it has too much fast motor vehicle traffic on it). Pick your poison. The ride coordinator does not feel that King Road contains too many fast cars, but that's his opinion, others don't agree.

Meet at west parking lot of the Finch TTC Subway Station at 9:45 AM for a prompt 10:00 AM departure.
