Participants need to book own accomodation. Some of us are staying at the Holiday Inn Express, 235 Prince Edward Ave, Ottawa. Its called Downtown Ottawa East. Parking is $18 per day. The hotel is near the Byward Market area for restaurants, and about 1 km from the Rideau Canal and 1 km from the National Art Gallery.
As for skiing, it’ll be in the Gatineau Hills (Gatineau Park), on the Quebec side with its 40 groomed, track-set trails, and wilderness trails, amounting to an impressive 200 km. There is a very wide variety of trails, for novice to expert.
For skiing, we will visit 3 different areas of the park each day. Each day will follow the same schedule during the day. We will have the opportunity to purchase maps at the visitors centre when we are buying the trail tickets. Skiers should have a day pack to to carry extra clothing, lunches, and water.
There is skating on the Rideau canal and the distance one way is 7.8 km, there are rentals this year, and sleigh. There is no storage for your boots. There will be food huts for hot chocolate and beaver tails.
