   Glen Major Forest/Brock Tract Loop

The Glen Major Forest is more than 3700 acres of land located on the Oak Ridges Moraine in the headwaters of the Duffins Creek Watershed.  This area consists of mixed coniferous/ deciduous forests and a gravel pit once operated in the Glen Major site and is currently being restored.  The remainder of the property complex was previously used for agriculture and contains a variety of habitat including forest, meadows and wetlands.  Old farm roads and farm building foundations are still visible. This hike has lots of elevation changes and I think that most hikers will find the forest quite beautiful but strenuous.  It is a hike worth doing.

Distance:  13 km

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38184572

Pace:       Moderate (~3.5 km/hr)

Terrain:     Moderate - rocky with hills and/or poor footing.   PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT WINTER HIKING IS DIFFERENT THAN FALL HIKING AND YOU NEED TO PREPARE ACCORDINGLY.  Proper footwear including proper icers are required to do this hike.

This is a smaller free (or it was in late November) parking lot that may be difficult to see from Brock Road.  It looks like a farmers lane so be on the lookout for it.  We are using this because the lot we usually use now has pay parking.

Parking is at a premium so please do not be late and find yourself scrambling for a parking spot.
