"Wild Card Sunday" gives us an opportunity to hold a Country Cruise that was previously scheduled during the season but unfortunately had to be cancelled, often due to less-than-appealing weather conditions for cycling. This year we have selected the Clarington Cruiser as our "Wild Card Sunday" CC. If the trees have begun to turn their autumn colours, it is a perfect October "Wild Card Sunday" ride! Enjoy!
This gorgeous ride from Newcastle to Orono, was scouted out during the 2020 Covid lockdown summer by a keen CCer and was introduced to the CC program last summer (2021) with rave reviews. The route travels along open, scenic farmland (and a small air museum) and mounts some hills in and around Clarington to eventually arrive in the town of Orono for lunch. Bring your lunch to enjoy in Orono's lovely community park with picnic tables and washroom facilities. Or, if you prefer, pick up something at a local convenience store or the bakery on the main street. The return trip to Newcastle has some wonderful downhill stretches and passes some great apple orchards.
