Trouble loading routes to Garmin when first 15 characters of file name are identical

Not sure if others have this issue with their Garmin GPS but wanted to make you aware that if routes when the first 15 characters of the fit file are identical only the last file loaded appears as a route.  Others are overwritten.

For example the Country Cruise ride for Sunday, April 23, 2022 has three route options:

Credit River Revisited - L96 TBN CC

Credit River Revisited - M74 TBN CC

Credit River Revisited - S66 TBN CC

If I load all three only the 66km route appears as it is the last route I loaded.

Because TBN is not allowing the option of making a copy which I can rename, I can only load one route.

    Does anyone have a solution

    Regards,

    Paul Schiratti

What model of Garmin GPS do you have and how are you loading the files? Somebody else with that model might have some specific help or ideas.

I do not have this problem. I have an older general purpose Garmin eTrex 30, not a bike specific GPS. I download the .gpx files from RWGPS to my computer and then copy them to my GPS with a USB cable. The GPS stores the full file name, although it only displays about the first 20 characters on the route selection screen. It allows the files to be renamed on a “track manager” screen.

    Maybe you could try either:

    1. renaming each file right after you load it; or
    2. download the files to your computer, rename them there, and then copy them to your GPS.
    Hope that helps.  Good luck!

Just another data point. I have an old Garmin Edge 100 cyclocomputer and it has the same issue. I just tried to load the 3 .fit files from the CC ride last Sunday and only the last one loaded remains on the Garmin. I loaded them using the USB cable

I've had this Garmin for many years, never noticed that before.

It only works if you rename the files in ridewithgps.

I edit .tcx files in notepad.  Just search for the <id> and <Name> tags.  Make sure they are unique (different for different files), and your problem should go away.

You can try it for .fit files as well, although I don't have one handy to test with.  I also don't know if they are "plain text" files.
