social media policy

Updated October 2019

Social media is a superb tool for TBN members to connect, communicate and share club activities and member achievements. Positive use of social media should further the enjoyment of the club experience by its members. This policy is designed to be open and transparent about how members should communicate when using the club’s social media channels to create a positive experience.

The club’s channels:
Facebook: facebook.com/groups/tbn.ca

Instagram: instagram.com (to be determined)

PLEASE SHARE: your ride photos, your achievements, cycling based topics, questions about routes or gear. Social media is also a forum to share events or news from our club, or for board members and designated volunteers to promote membership, TBN partners (including retail) or events that further the club’s interests.  We encourage sharing of TBN posts across other social media channels and ask that members observe any rules of other platforms so that we keep our reputation positive and strong.

DO NOT SHARE:

  • Posts that are neither cycling related nor considered of interest/relevance to cyclists and the Club.
  • Posts about charitable initiatives. Please use your personal social media pages to ask for donations to a cause.
  • Posts that criticize individual volunteers including ride leaders and board members, events, sponsors or partners. These issues should be taken up directly with the individuals or brought to the Board’s attention if necessary.
  • Any posts that are offensive or could harm the club’s reputation.  No sexism, racism, homophobia, shaming or bullying here! This includes offensive images and language.
  • Posts that share confidential information about other members.
  • Advertising, or posts that could result in a conflict of interest, eg. posts promoting other cycling clubs, or retail partners that compete with those that already support the club.

Misuse of the club’s social media channels may result in a suspension or removal from the club. If you believe a post is offensive, please bring it to the attention of a Board Member or the Director of Communications.
