It's time to recognize TBN volunteers who made a difference in 2026. Running a cycling club like TBN takes many hands and our club is fortunate to have some great people who give their time in myriad ways. This year, we will be accepting nominations for six different volunteer awards described here, and the winner will be chosen by a new volunteer awards committee. The TBN AGM Dinner and Dance is an event you won't want to miss. Catch up with TBN friends, enjoy a delicious dinner, take part in the club's annual general meeting where you'll hear updates on the past year, review club business, and welcome newly elected members to the board of directors. Then celebrate another great cycling season by dancing the night away to live music. More info about the AGM here. Member Profiles: What's your cycling story? |

TBN member John David Line, commonly known as another Dave we know, tells his story. "A few months after my wife passed in 2022, I knew I needed to get out of the house to start doing something active and uplifting." He had not been able to ride during his wife's illness. |
|
He decided to visit D'Ornellas bike shop to look into buying a proper bike. D'Ornellas staff members were all very helpful and they told him about a wonderful bike club that he might enjoy, the Toronto Bicycling Network. Dave says, "My daughter was very encouraging and together we selected a Specialized Sirrus 1 in a striking blue colour. Very quickly, I joined TBN and had my first club ride with the Leisure Wheelers." Before long, he was hooked on cycling and the club.
Since then, he has joined Urban Roller, Country Cruise and some Program X rides and many overnight trips. He has attended Cyclon every year since 2023. "Leading and sweeping rides has been a way to become more involved in TBN and I have made a modest contribution in other ways as well," says Dave. Social events and the social component of TBN has been important to him. Since buying his first bike, he purchased a Specialized Roubaix and later a Specialized Creo SL from D'Ornellas. Adds Dave: "While I may not need any more bicycles, I feel a strong need to continue cycling, socializing and volunteering with TBN." |

TBN fun and community doesn't stop when the cycling season ends.

|
City Walks with John Burdett are back this fall. Curious about City Walks? Want to help plan or lead a walk? Attend a planning meeting on Sept. 19 (in person) and/or Sept. 23 online. (click links to register). For more info see the City Walks program page here.
Fall/Winter hiking will begin likely in October when most of us stop riding outside. There will also be opportunities for skating, curling and social events to keep in touch with TBN friends. Stay tuned for more info. |
