TBN Toronto Bike Month Events - 2010

The Toronto Bicycling Network has been an enthusiastic supporter and participant in Toronto Bike Month since its inception. Here are the events TBN volunteers are organizing to help celebrate Bike Month as well as some other Bike Month events organized by the city and other groups that are too good to miss.

Sat-May-29 Bells on Bloor
Description:Annual pedal-powered parade beginning at noon at the Bloor St Gate of High Park and concluding at Queens Park two hours later. Free bike bells. Wear a costume or decorate your bike and become eligible to win a prize

Mon-May-31 21st Annual Group Commute & Free Pancake Breakfast
Description:Join an annual tradition! Pick up a free T-shirt and participate in the City of Toronto's marquee Bike Month event. Meet at 7:00 a.m. at either Yonge & Lawrence, Bloor & High Park, or Danforth & Woodbine, and then converge on Yonge and Bloor at 7:30 a.m. for a ride down to Nathan Phillips Square for breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Note: this year there are eight additional community starting points -- please check the city web site. Free pancake breakfast provided by the St. Lawrence Market. These rides are staffed with Cycling Ambassadors, Emergency Medical Services, and Police. Fri-Jun-04 TBN Bluffs, Beers and Pizza
Description:Get your weekend off to a GREAT start!! It's MUCH Better than Speed Dating!!! This is an official Bike Month Event so there will be lots of potential new members(/dates???). This week we'll cycle through parks & quiet residential streets to the Scarborough Bluffs for romantic sunset views and a pizza dinner in the park! Followed by some cold beer on a patio! Meet in Riverdale Park just north of Bridgepoint Health Centre (on the west side of Broadview north of Gerrard) for a 6:30 p.m. departure. Don't forget your lock, lights, helmet and a jacket as it may be cool by the lake. Ride cancelled if raining. $5 non-members fee waived for this event.

Sat-Jun-05 TBN Saturday Morning Ride
Description:Kick off the weekend with this brisk-paced 35km social ride suitable for Easy Rollers and Tourists. Departs at 9:30 a.m. sharp and returns by 12:15 so you can do your Saturday errands or relax over an apres ride snack or lunch. Start point is the Boardwalk Pub just east of Coxwell & Lakeshore in the eastern beaches area. Woodbine Beach parking is free at the moment, and free street parking is available on both sides of Coxwell Ave. If driving, allow ten minutes extra for parking, bike assembly, clothing changes, etc. $5 non-members fee waived. Helmets mandatory (as always).
Location:The Boardwalk Pub is located just east of the foot of Coxwell Ave at Lakeshore Blvd, in the Woodbine Beach parking lot.
Tue-Jun-08 TBN Balfour and the Beltline
Description:David Balfour Park, Moore Park, the Beltline, and Cedarvale Park. Some unpaved paths. $5 non-members fee waived. Helmets mandatory, as always.
Location:Meet for a 10:30 a.m. departure in Taddle Creek Park one block north of the Bedford exit of the St. George subway station for an 19 km ride suitable for Leisure Wheeler class riders.
Fri-Jun-11 TBN Splash Pizza and Luminato
Description:Cycle the waterfront bike trails followed by drinks & dinner on one of Toronto's BEST patios at Splash which overlooks the lake and features amazing pizza from a wood burning oven! Afterwards, we'll dance under the stars at Luminato's Free Opening Night Celebration at Yonge-Dundas Square. Meet in Riverdale Park just north of Bridgepoint Health Centre (on the west side of Broadview north of Gerrard) for a 6:30 departure. Don't forget lights, helmet and lock. Also, bring a jacket since we'll be outside on a patio & it may be cool down by the lake. Ride cancelled if raining. $5 non-member fee waived for this event.

Sun-Jun-13 TBN High Park - Centennial Park - Port Credit
Description:PArks and river banks is the theme of this scenic tour. Ride through two parks and along two river banks to lunch in Mississauga, with a return along the Waterfront Trail. $5 non-members fee waived. Helmets mandatory, as always.
Location:Meet for a 10:00 a.m. departure from the parking lot of the Grenadier cafe at High Park, 1 km. south of Bloor.
Fri-Jun-18 TBN Ice Cream Ride - Viva L'Italia!
Description:In honour of the Taste of Little Italy Festival we're doing everything Italian tonight! We'll cycle the Beltline trail to La Paloma (the best Italian gelato in Toronto!). Afterwards, we'll check out the Taste of Little Italy street festival - with great entertainment and lots of wonderful food! We'll end up at California Sandwiches for the absolute BEST veal sandwiches anywhere! Meet in Riverdale Park just north of Bridgepoint Health Centre (on the west side of Broadview north of Gerrard) for a 6:30 departure. Don't forget lights, helmet and lock (and appetite)! Also, bring a jacket since we'll be outside. Ride cancelled if raining. $5 non-member fee waived for this event.

Description:This is the longer version of the ride to everyone's favourite bakery in Maple. $5 non-members fee waived. Helmets mandatory, as always.
Location:Meet for a 10:00 a.m. departure at Finch Subway Kiss and Ride, northwest corner Yonge St and Hendon Ave, one block north of Finch.
Tue-Jun-22 TBN Bloordale and Mimico Creek
Description:Explore the western edge of the city. A bit of street riding takes us to paths in two nice long ravines. One unpaved road. $5 non-members fee waived. Helmets mandatory, as always.
Location:Meet for a 10:30 a.m. departure in Kipling Subway Park and Ride (north lot) for a 19 km ride suitable for Leisure Wheeler class riders.
Fri-Jun-25 TBN Distillery District
Description:Cycle the waterfront bike trails followed by drinks, dinner and free live entertainment on a patio at Toronto's newest HOT SPOT - the Distillery District (at Parliament and Mill St just north of the Lakeshore). Meet in Riverdale Park just north of Bridgepoint Health Centre (on the west side of Broadview north of Gerrard) for a 6:30 departure. Don't forget lights, helmet and lock. Also, bring a jacket since we'll be outside on a patio and it may be cool down by the lake. Ride canceled if raining. $5 non-member fee waived for this event.

Sun-Jun-27 TBN Centennial Park to Port Credit
Description:Ride through scenic Port Credit and lunch at Clarkson. The way back home will be on the waterfront trail. Lunch in Clarkson. This ride is a good challenge and is expected to be at the top end of the Easy Roller pace.
Location:Meet in the parking lot of Etienne Brule Park for a 10:00 a.m. departure. Etienne Brule Park is located at the junction of Old Mill Rd and Old Mill Dr (around the corner and down the hill from the Old Mill subway station). $5 non-members fee waived. Helmets mandatory, as always.
Tue-Jun-29 TBN Sunnybrook/Don Valley
Description:Almost all of the route is paved. Some street riding, but two-thirds of the route is on bike paths and half is in ravines. Come and see the amazing half-elephants (or maybe they're giant molars!) $5 non-members fee waived. Helmets mandatory, as always.
Location:Meet for a 10:30 a.m. departure in Taddle Creek Park one block north of the Bedford exit of the St. George subway station for a 26 km ride suitable for Leisure Wheeler class riders.
