May 21 - May 30: Kentucky

Marie & Dinsmore will be leading their spring cycling event in Kentucky again this year. We expect to open registration around February 15. If you have questions, please contact dinsmore99@gmail.com

Contact Janet at weekendtrips@tbn.ca if you have any suggestions for a trip or if you wish to lead one. Trip leaders have their fees paid by TBN.

A new look for Cyclon - win $100 off your trip

Cyclon, TBN's flagship multi-day cycling event, turns 30 this year, with the next Cyclon scheduled for historic and beautiful Kingston over the August long weekend. We need your help to make it an extra special occasion. Please enter the contest for a new Cyclon logo -- the lucky (and skillful) winner gets a $100 certificate towards your Cyclon adventure.

Your winning design should be in postscript, so it can be used in large and small sizes on leaflets, banners and other materials. To submit your logo, email cyclon@tbn.ca, with the subject heading "Cyclon logo contest." Contest closes Monday, February 29, 2016.

Canada by bike

Come listen to TBN member Paul Stockton as he reads from his book On The Detour: Cycling Across Canada on a Recumbent. Paul will share photos and stories of the despair of constant rain, the pain of injury, encounters with animals, and meetings with some of the friendliest people across the country as he fulfilled his long-held dream of cycling across Canada.

March 2 at Northern District Library in Toronto. Please register ahead of time so we know how many people to expect.

Test ride the Milton Velodrome

You've seen pictures of the daredevil cyclists spinning round the track at the Milton Velodrome. Now we're offering you a chance to try it for yourself. Watch the website for details of our March 13 special opportunity to cycle at the Velodrome, and register soon after it opens. This event will likely sell out quickly.

Ski Partners

With the cancellation of the TBN day ski program, we encourage you to check out other great ski clubs in the GTA, notably High Park Ski Club, which boasts many current TBN members.

New TBN discount partner - Charity ride

The epic charity ride, 7 Days in May,  supports funding to find a cure for pancreas cancer. TBN members who register will be entitled to a 10% discount.  Options include a Single Day of Riding (May 28), a Weekend Ride (May 28-29), and the challenging Around the Lake Ride (May 28 – June 3). All rides require a minimum fundraising commitment, with 100% of proceeds going to NCIC Clinical Trials Group in Kingston.

Daily distances are long. The Around the Lake Ride would be classified as Advanced Tourist as the ride averages 150km per day at averages of 25-28kph.

Deals, deals, deals

There are some great winter deals available at some of TBN's retail partners, and the off-season is always a good time to shop for bikes and accessories. Check out our partner stores and see what's available. If you have a favourite shop that's not on our list, tell the owner to contact publicity@tbn.ca to be added.

Get your jersey

Sales of the very popular TBN cycling jerseys, jackets and vests continue, with a range of items and a range of prices.

We need 10 orders to start a production run, and then it's about 5-7 weeks delivery, so you can have your new jersey before the spring biking season starts.

Details here.

REMINDERS

A picture's worth a thousand words

Don't forget to tell your TBN friends what you're up to, on and off the bike. Why don't you take advantage of the winter break to post your pictures to the TBN website, and to the TBNFacebook page. See the photo page of the website for easy instructions on how to post your pics.

And did you know TBN has a YouTube channel too? Check it out and post your videos.

Housekeeping points

Winter is also a good time to update your profile on the TBN website to be sure you're up to date on the rides you typically do. Sometimes an important email is sent only to those people who checked a certain ride program box (eg news about a Saturday Morning Ride may be sent to those who check off that box). Log on to your account, click "view profile" at the top right of the screen, and edit away.

This is also where you can offer to volunteer. As you know, TBN relies on volunteers for all its activities. If you can help, please complete that section.

Remember to re-visit the TBN website before you head out in case your activity is cancelled on short notice. Coordinators will always put safety first and cancel a ride if weather conditions pose a danger.

You can also check the TBN schedule on your smartphone at www.tbn.ca/mobile.

You do not have to sign up for rides. Just show up at the start point and show your membership card to the ride leader.

Remember to visit the TBN calendar of events to find out more about what's coming up.
