Hello Everyone:

In a few weeks, work on the trestle bridge across the Waterford Ponds will be complete. This is the final link in the Trans-Canada Trail that travels from Brantford down to Port Dover. Below this high trestle bridge there are two smaller bridges that need to be replaced to create a park and side trail into Waterford.

Our local committee is competing in a contest for funds for these bridges at Aviva Insurance. WE NEED YOUR VOTE!

We look forward to welcoming you next year here on the Waterford Heritage Trail, and plan to put up a web site shortly that will give you all the information you need to travel on the trail from Brantford to Port Dover. I will keep everyone posted here on this forum.

In the meantime, won’t you check into our website and vote for our pond bridges? The voting starts tomorrow November 14th and continues through November 30th. You can vote every day during that period.

At the top of our click on “Aviva: Vote for our pond bridges”.

At the bottom of that next page just click on the icon and it will take you to the Aviva Community Fund page where you can register and vote.

For those of you who are on Facebook - please go to:

Thanks for your support. We will keep in touch.

An update

Hello everyone,

Just an update. A couple of days ago our community project was in 13th position in the voting at the Aviva website. As of today we are now in 10th position. We need to be in the top ten in our category ($50,000-$100,000) to make it as a finalist.

As a finalist our presentation goes before a panel of judges and they decide if we get the funding or not. We have three chances. If we miss the first vote there is a second chance for projects that have been sponsored by a local insurance broker. Then there is a third chance for the money that is left over ($400,000).

We are sponsored by Tri-County insurance brokers and have an excellent project presentation. We are just saying our prayers so that we remain in at least 10th place and have a chance to make our pitch. Thanks to all of you who have been voting. If you can find the time to vote for us each day till the end of the competition it may well make the difference.

group photo shoot

Thanks to all that voted for us in the last round. We have just made it to the semi-finals of this national contest and are pulling out all the stops to make it through this round and to the final judging.

This Sunday there will be a group photo shoot at the site. Members of our community (as many as possible) will gather at the gap where one of the new bridges should be and photos of this will be taken from the high trestle bridge. We would really like to have a good number of cyclists in the foreground for this photo op. If any on this forum would care to mosey out to Waterford (South of Brantford near Simcoe)and could bring their bikes for this it would be much appreciated. Final work (railings installation) on the Black Bridge (high trestle bridge) started yesterday. While you are here you can check out the work so far.

For those who can make it, many thanks. We will meet in front of Yin's Restaurant on the main street of Waterford at 1:45 p.m. this Sunday (December 4th) and then bike to the site from there.
