Hi Everyone,
If you're going to the next "Paul and Brenda" special at Presquile and want a good place for dinner Friday night and Sunday before going home, check out the "Yukon Galley" at CFB Trenton. It's the canteen for transient airmen, off duty servicemen and their relatives but it is open to the public. The food is excellent almost like a mini Marche' and it is subsidized by the government. They do not advertise or the local restaurants will cry foul. The hours are 06:00 to 08:30 for breakfast, 11:00 to 13:30 for lunch and 16:00 to 18:30 for dinner. To get there from Presquile, follow hwy. 2 to the base. The runways are to the north and the living quarters, administration buildings and the Yukon Galley are to the south. Go east past the airfield and enter at the guard shack. There is never anyone at the guard shack but if there is, just tell them you're going to the Yukon Galley which the first right (Yukon Street) and the 2nd low building will be on your right heading west. There is plenty of free street parking. I've been going here for meals over the years every time I drive east. I used to be an air cadet many moons ago, was stationed here the first 2 weeks of August in 1969 and 1970. While you're at the base, check out the RCAF musem on RCAF drive which is the first north/south street on the west edge of the active runways. There is a hangar for static displays and large airpark for obsolete aircraft (engines removed) and best of all it is free but they do accept donations. A fellow from my church worked as a contractor at the base a few summers ago, he was grinning ear to ear about the pasta special for $2.99 which included a salad, may be a bit more now but not much. To get to CFB Trenton from the 401, follow signs to Trenton and then signs to RCAF museum, go past museum and go east on hwy. 2. Every Canadian Forces base in Canada have a "canteen" like the Yukon Galley open to the public, keep that in mind on your travels across Canada.
