I was at the corner of Dufferin and Steeles the other day and noticed on the North side of Steeles, that they have installed a bus and a bike lane on Dufferin, not sure how far up it goes, but a quick look at the Vaughan bike plan shows it will eventually go, in one form or anther to the King line. This could become a new preferred route out of the city. Too bad Vaughan and Toronto don't talk, it wouldn't be hard to extend that bike lane down to say Supertest, which would make it much more useful. to Toronto riders as a way North.

Write to TCAC

Although the city's cycling staff do their best to keep on top of everything, there are not enough in the cycling dept for them to do so.

That means that it is up to interested citizens like you and I to cover the slack. Which is good, because it means we're not overspending through our taxes on too many staff. And it means we have a constructive role to play in our city's affairs, and we can help lead our city to greatness.

So pick up a pen, (or power up the computer) and write to Toronto's Cycling Advisory Committee (TCAC) and, if possible, also make a deputation at the committee to make sure that they hear you and to answer any questions that you might not have been able to answer in your written submissions.

When you frame it as a proposal, staff will have to answer you with their own proposal. And, at least some times, staff can even help you to fine tune what you're going to submit to the committee before-hand to get maximum impact.

You'd also be well off submitting a copy of your submission to your local councillor as well, often you will find that they actually want to help and will stand behind you proposal, especially when you get others involved from your community.

This is an election year, and already we have Rossi stating he's against bikes for transportation. Let's do stuff to show Toronto just how good bikes (and the cyclists who ride them) really are for our city.
