Sierra Maestra Bicycle Tour
Once again, Canbicuba is offering adventurous riders the opportunity to visit the Cuba that lies beyond the confines of the beachfront. Starting in Holguin, the 2010 tour heads for Cuba’s culture captital, Santiago de Cuba, stopping en route for a day in the mountains at Villa El Salton. The two days in Santiago include an evening at the renowned Tropicana Night Club. Then it’s off for three days along the scenic coast road, hugging the contours of the rugged Sierra Maestra range, accompanied only by the sound of rolling tides breaking on empty beaches.
This tour is open to riders of all categories. Terrain is not overly demanding. It is February and the pace will not be hurried. Riders depart at 9am while the bus leaves around mid-day.
CanBiCuba has a very strong relationship with the riders of Las Tunas, many of whom we have helped through our equipment donation program. Many Canbicuba tour participants support this program each year. At the end of the tour, there is a party with the local kids and, possibly a race for entertainment.
The land cost of the tour is $1495. This includes all breakfasts and most dinners, with the exception of a few evenings, when the group will dine at a paladar for a change. There is water on the bus but mid-day snacks are up to the individual. A deposit of $400 secures a seat on the tour.
