Board of Directors (Elected Positions)

Note: all Board positions are open to members in good standing of the Toronto Bicycling Network. All other positions are open to TBN members in good standing where a vacancy exists.

President - Works with other Directors and members in helping to develop, expand and implement club objectives, plans and programs. Chairs board meetings, the AGM, and any other special meetings. Ex-officio member of all standing committees. Recruits replacement Board members should a position become vacant. Enforces the by-laws, rules and regulations of the Corporation. Contact: tbn@tbn.ca

Vice President, Touring - Oversees all aspects of TBN's cycling programs including Sunday/Holiday rides (Leisure Wheeler, Easy Roller, Tourist, Sportif, and Country Cruise), weekday rides, classic rides (Hairshirt, TNT Overnight, Hail Centurions, Annual Barbecue), weekend cycling trips, etc. Acts as a resource person for the various Ride/Event Coordinators. Working with the Education Director, coordinates cycling education workshops including the recruitment and training of tour leaders. Retains copies of all maps and documents generated by the touring program. Contact: touring@tbn.ca

Vice President, Skiing - Organizes all aspects of the cross-country skiing program including coach service, pick-up points, bus captains and ski instructors. Coordinates ski education workshops with the Education Director. Ensures ski activities are properly publicized. Prepares and maintains a budget for the ski program. Contact: xcski@tbn.ca

Treasurer - Administers the finances of the corporation. Maintains a full and accurate account of all TBN revenues and expenses. Deposits payments to the TBN, pays bills, and reimburses officers for reasonable expenses (in accordance with TBN policy).Prepares budgets and financial statements as required, including the Annual Financial Statements for the AGM. Has the care and custody of corporation funds and securities. (Bookkeeping and general accounting experience is required for this position.) Contact: tbn@tbn.ca

Secretary - Prepares and distributes (in a timely fashion) accurate minutes of Board meetings and the AGM. Summarizes minutes for inclusion in Quick Release. Administers secretarial duties as required including maintaining a record of the names, addresses and telephone numbers of Board members and appointed volunteers. Maintains the corporate seal and all documents required by The Corporations Act. Contact: tbn@tbn.ca

Managing Editor, Quick Release - Leads the team responsible for producing five issues of Quick Release per year and ensures its timely distribution to members. The Managing Editor solicits and receives articles, photos, and graphics by the deadline date; does final edit and works with copy editor to proofread copy; decides with the newsletter layout artist on placement of submissions, page layout, page count and paper stock; deals with printer/mailer for final distribution; attends monthly Board meetings. Access to a computer with email, organizational skills, and excellent written English are required for this role. Volunteering for this position is a great way to support the efforts of TBN's event coordinators and organizers and to help fulfill TBN's advocacy and education mandates. Contact: newsletter@tbn.ca

Social Director - Coordinates the Spring Dinner/Dance and the Fall AGM Dinner/Dance including arranging for hall rental, food, beverages, entertainment, ticketing, and door prizes. Also coordinates monthly socials, the annual barbecue picnic, as well as any other TBN social events and activities. Contact: social@tbn.ca

Publicity & Promotions Director - Responsible for the overall promotion and publicity of the club so as to enhance membership and the club's profile and reputation. Organizes the TBN booth at the Bike Show in March, TBN displays at other cycling events such as Bike Week, and the promotional aspect of TBN's involvement in the Ride for Heart each June. Coordinates the production of the TBN membership application and its distribution to bike stores and other suitable locations. Undertakes other promotions as appropriate (e.g. print advertising). Education Director - Plans and hosts Education Nights (generally held monthly) and organizes other educational events (e.g. the bike skills workshops and tour leader workshops), in conjunction with the VP's of Touring and Skiing as required. Arranges the speaker, venue, refreshments, and publicity for such events. Also arranges for an education article to be submitted for each newsletter. Contact: edu@tbn.ca

Civic Affairs Director - Liaises with local and provincial cycling and cross-country skiing associations and committees (e.g. the Ontario Cycling Association, the Toronto Cycling Committee, ARC, Cycle Ontario Alliance, etc.) to further the interests of the club. Acts as an advocate of the club, as appropriate. Contact: info@tbn.ca


Director of Cyclon - Coordinates the annual
Cyclon rally held on the long weekend in August. Works with Cyclon committee members to choose a location, arrange accommodation and meals, develop cycling routes, organize social events, undertake publicity, manage the Cyclon budget, etc. Contact: cyclon@tbn.ca

Weekend Trips Director - Manages the club's extensive schedule of weekend trips (with the exception of Cyclon), recruits and supports trip organizers. Brings weekend trip proposals to the Board for approval and enforces the club's weekend trip policy. Contact: trips@tbn.ca
