Happy New Year!

TBN wishes everyone a happy, healthy, safe new year.

Check tbn.ca for all our winter activities. And remember, the biking season is only a couple of months away!

Winter is here

The snow is finally hitting the GTA, and while TBN has suspended its Ski Day program for this year, our friends over at High Park Ski Club have a full schedule of downhill and cross country skiing events this season, including downhill ski day trips to Blue Mountain and Mount St. Louis as well as weekday trips to private ski resorts. Cross country destinations include Hardwood Hills, Scenic Caves, Horseshoe and many more.

High Park will have a cross country "Test Drive Day" later in the season, where people can try the club out without being a member. Details at High Park Ski Club.

 A picture's worth a thousand words

Don't forget to tell your TBN friends what you're up to, on and off the bike. Why don't you take advantage of the winter break to post your pictures to the TBN website, and to the TBN Facebook page. See the website for instructions on how to post your pics.

And did you know TBN has a YouTube channel too? Check it out, and post your videos.

Calling all videographers

TBN may produce a promotional video and is seeking source footage. If you shot some high-quality video from TBN rides over the last couple of years, please contact publicity@tbn.ca, or post to the TBN YouTube channel.

We can also use help from anyone with graphic arts skills to help us get the word out about TBN? Again, contact publicity@tbn.ca if you can help.

Housekeeping points

Winter is also a good time to update your profile on the TBN website to be sure you're up to date on the rides you typically do. Sometimes an important email is sent only to those people who checked a certain ride program box (eg news about a Saturday Morning Ride may be sent to those who check off that box). Log on to your account, click "view profile" at the top right of the screen, and edit away.

This is also where you can offer to volunteer. As you know, TBN relies on volunteers for all its activities. If you can help, please complete that section.

Cyclon turns 30

Cyclon, TBN's flagship multi-day cycling event, turns 30 this year, with the next Cyclon scheduled for historic and beautiful Kingston over the August long weekend. You can help to make a unique contribution by participating in the contest for a new Cyclon logo.

Your winning design should be in postscript, so it can be used in large and small sizes on leaflets, banners and other materials. To submit your logo, email cyclon@tbn.ca, with the subject heading "Cyclon logo contest."

What's WattsUp

WattsUp Cycling Studio in Etobicoke is offering one more chance to experience the WattsUp program, with a special instructor-led session on January 24 that allows you to measure your exertion on your bike. It's like a Spin class, but much more informative.

Check the Education page of the TBN website for details on how to register for this session. There are only 16 spaces per session, and a minimum of 8 registrants is required for each session to proceed.

Deals, deals, deals and Fat Bike fun

There are some great winter deals available at some of TBN's retail partners, including a special $500 discount on TDA Global Cycling's first Fat Bike adventure on Lake Winnipeg in February. More details on the TDA website. Off-season is always a good time to shop for bikes and accessories, so check out our partner stores and see what's available. If you have a favourite shop not on our list, tell the owner to contact publicity@tbn.ca to be added.

Get your jersey  - beat the price increase Feb 1

Sales of the very popular TBN cycling jerseys, jackets and vests continue, with a range of items at prices starting from $59.40.

We need 10 orders to start a production run, and then it's about 5-7 weeks delivery, so you can have your new jersey before the spring biking season starts. Order now before prices increase February 1.

Details here.

Remember to re-visit the TBN website before you head out in case your activity is cancelled on short notice. Coordinators will always put safety first and cancel a ride if weather conditions pose a danger.

You can also check the TBN schedule on your smartphone at www.tbn.ca/mobile.

You do not have to sign up for rides. Just show up at the start point and show your membership card to the ride leader.

Remember to visit the TBN calendar of events to find out more about what's coming up.
